¾ cup pecans 10 oz milk chocolate ¾ cup salted butter ¾ cup sugar 1½ Tblsp sugar 1 Tblsp water
Yes, you really do have to weigh the chocolate. The original recipe called for six Hershy candy bars; it never specified a volume and I never bothered to measure it. The candy bars it called for are what you typically find in a vending machine and weigh 1¾ ounces (each); I think since I first learned this recipe Hershey has reduced the weight to 1½ ounces. If you buy a package of six bars there’s no need to measure (or weigh) anything but if you buy a bag of morsels, well, I guess you’re going to need that kitchen scale after all, huh?
Yes, it really is ¾ cups plus 1 ½ tablespoons of sugar because that's the volume of 6 ounces of sugar. And no, I'm not being difficult; that’s exactly how the original recipe was given to me. I tried to tell you it was easier to weigh the sugar but you didn’t want to listen to me.
